Joan was my aunt, although I didn't know her. Our familes were estranged after my parents divorced. I had spoken to her on the phone a few times between 1991 and a few years ago. I'm sure she could've enriched the lives of my sister and me, but she seemed distant, or disinterested in her brother's daughters. And our own mother didn't help, telling us repeatedly that our father's side wanted nothing to do with us. Joan told me that was not true. If only my father were still here, he would be straight-up about it, I'm sure.
Joan's obituary omitted the fact that she was also preceded in death my her brother's oldest daughter, Diana Hannegan, and she is survived by his 2 other daughters, her nieces, Connie Myers and Nanci Eyke.
I'm sorry that I never got to know you Aunt Joan. I would've liked to hear family stories and shared family pictures with you and Grandma.
