Obituary for Joan Harriet Firzlaff

Joan Firzlaff passed away on March 7, 2016.
Born Feb. 28, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., she was the only daughter of Hans and Dorothy Mucha Wappler.
Joan was married to Daniel Firzlafff on Aug. 4, 1951. In that year, she and her husband moved to the Manistee area.
There they both spent their lives as very active members of the Manistee congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 61 years until Dan predeceased her in 2012. Joan continued her faithful service, even having served as a full time evangelizer for 26 years. She studied the Bible with many people in the area and her fine example of faithfulness was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She appreciated the beauty of Jehovah’s creation, especially the natural beauty found in the Hamlin Lake area where she lived. She was especially fond of sailing and spending time on the water. As a young girl, Joan came with her parents and grandparents, Charles and Hattie Ufer Wappler, to vacation at Hamlin Lake. Her husband, Dan, shared her love of the water and they spent many enjoyable vacations on Mackinaw Island after spending their honeymoon there.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Wappler; and her husband, Daniel Firzlaff.
In lieu of flowers, it was Joan’s wish that donations be made to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, to support worldwide Bible education.
Joan Firzlaff’s memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on April 16, 2016, at the Manistee Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located at 915 Caberfae Highway (M-55) in Manistee. There will be a private internment next to her husband at North Victory Township Cemetery.
