Ruth Irene (Kuuttila) Tobey passed away peacefully on April 29th 2021 at the tender age of 86.

She was born in Kaleva, MI as the eldest daughter in a family of five. She graduated from Kaleva High School with fourteen classmates and attended Central Michigan University. She met and married Robert Tobey in September 1955. They were happily married for over 65 years and built their family together in Manistee, MI.
She enjoyed working as a Teller at Kaleva Bank, being a devoted stay at home Mom, and as a dispatcher at Dial-a-Ride. Ruth was known for her positive outlook, faith and loving spirit.
Ruth was an active member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and its Worship and Music Team. She also enjoyed serving as a Mentor to Confirmation students. Ruth along with Robert volunteered as a founding Committee member of Manistee Shoreline Showcase. Ruth enjoyed listening to live music with her husband, spending time at the family cottage, entertaining with her joy of cooking for family and friends, care taking for family and friends, and was a bright light in the lives of all those she was close with.
Left to cherish her memory are children Margo Snay (Cary), Mark Tobey (Anna) and Mary Willis (Ronald); brother Ken Kuuttila (Ellen); sister Linda Scamehorn (James); sister-in-laws’ Barbara Ostler (James) and Jane Synnestvedt; grandchildren Rebecca Martines (Tom), Natalie Snay and Grace Willis; beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert and parents Eero and Fanny Kuuttila.
A celebration of the lives of Ruth and Robert is being planned for a later date. Ruth was cremated at Oak Grove Cemetery and they will be buried together at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kaleva, MI.
