Virginia H. Bernier, Age 94 of Eastlake, Michigan died Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.

She was born on March 1, 1924 in Manistee, Michigan the daughter of the late Leo & Regina (Luczyak) Horaszewski. She attended Merritt School and Eastlake School. On June 23, 1945 she married William C. Bernier at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1964.
Virginia had been employed as a sales associate at Closson’s Jewelry & Gifts and at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility in the Housekeeping Department, retiring on February 11, 1989 after over 19 years of dedicated and faithful service. She enjoyed her job.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish in Manistee. (St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel Shrine) She loved going out to eat, dance, travel, and collecting smiley faces. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. Cleaning perch with Chuck was also a special time.
She is survived by two sons & daughters-in-law; Charles & Donna (Krause) Bernier and Wayne & Barbara (Oleniczak) Bernier and her three children; Jennifer Bernier and her friend Tom Braun, Paul Bernier (Jackie Howe) of Manistee and Sara Bernier of Lake City. Also surviving are her sister-in-law; Helga Horaszewski of Portland, Oregon, formerly of Eastlake and close friend Janet Gutowski of Manistee, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, William she was also preceded in death by her brother; Richard Horaszewski, sisters; Clara (Harvey) Berg, Delores (Larry) Allen, and Florence (Mike) Clark., her best friend Doris Calder of Eastlake and her close and dear friend; Leo Gutowski of Manistee.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Father Zeljko Guberovic celebrant. Burial will be in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until time of the Mass.
Memorials in Virginia’s name may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation.
