Obituary for Leslie Richard Mortensen

Leslie Richard Mortensen
Leslie R. Mortensen, age 87, of Ludington passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. He was born June 27, 1930 in Custer Township to Richard and Hilda (Knudson) Mortensen. Les’s siblings all agree he was his mother’s favorite.

Les graduated from Ludington High School in 1949. He was drafted into the US Army and served for two years during the Korean War.

Les returned home and worked for Handy Things for over 20 years. He retired from Harsco Rail as a Shipping Clerk, where he worked for over 10 years.

Les married Marie (Ross) Johnson on September 5, 1981 in Ludington.

Les attended the Community Church in Ludington. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed golf, bowling, and fishing.

Les will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Marie, his step daughters, Melinda (Randy) Dougherty of Ludington and Julie (Ted) Fleming of Hudsonville, five step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren, his four siblings, Mary Case, Helen Larson, Wayne (Jeannie) Mortensen, and Alyce Bryant, many nieces and nephews. Snickers, his beloved dog, was at his side until the end.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Hilda Mortensen.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service is being planned for the spring.

Memorial contributions in Les’ name may be directed to Harbor Hospice or the Community Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Ludington.
