Victoria Mary (Rinkevicz) Hammond, age 90, of Custer, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017. She was born December 8, 1927 in Eden Township to John and Mary Rinkevicz. She was the eighth child of ten. She has two siblings remaining, Joe (Wilma) Rinkevicz of Idaho and Amelia (Howard) of Colorado.
Victoria married Bruce Hammond on April 22, 1950 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Scottville. The couple lived in Riverton until October 1952 when they bought a farm in Eden Township, there they built a new home for their family.
Victoria worked many years on the farm. She also worked at Scottville Manor nursing home, Atkinsens Manufacturing and retired from Star Watch Case. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and caring for her family. She was also a member of the St. Mary’s Alter Society.
Victoria is survived by her two sons: Thomas Hammond of Scottville, Frederick (Karen) Hammond of Stillwater, OK and her daughter: Kathleen (Tom) Barnett of Scottville; five grandchildren: Kirk (Chris) Hammond, Eric Hammond, Scott (Tyler) Hammond, Megan (Ryan) Coates, and TeeJay (Martin) Gomez; five great grandchildren: Laura Herrera, Elija Gomez, Lilyana Gomez, Leigha Gomez, and AvaLena Hammond; stepchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her parents, Victoria was preceded in death by her husband Bruce, a daughter Constance and a son Charles.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 1 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer. A visitation will begin at 12pm also at the church.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Custer First Responders or to the church for mass intensions.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Ludington.
