Margie (Murphy) Cunningham, 92, of Ludington, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Spectrum Health of Ludington.
Margie was born on October 28, 1924 in Riverton Township, the daughter of Patrick and Marguerite (Bryan) Murphy. She was married on October 28, 1946 to Robert H. Cunningham, who preceded her in death on November 13, 2012. They resided in Ludington since 2002, moving there from Walhalla, and previously lived in East Detroit. At the time of her passing, Margie resided at Tendercare of Ludington.
Margie attended school in Ludington, Wiley, and Scottville, graduating from Scottville High School in 1941. She attended Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit and was a member of the Nurse Cadet Corp during WWII. She worked as a registered nurse in Detroit area hospitals until retirement in 1984. Margie was a member of the Providence Hospital Nurses Alumni Association (PHNAA) and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 76.
Margie is survived by her children, Susan (Jerry) Roberts of Julian, NC, David (Joy) Cunningham of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Barbara (Charles) Cliff of Indianapolis, IN, Dorothy Cunningham of Jackson, WI, and Daniel Cunningham of Roseville, MI; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Agnes Graham and Richard Murphy; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; son, Robert II; and brothers, Gordon and Robert Murphy.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Simon Catholic Church, with visitation starting at 10:00 am. Visitation will also be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 4-7 pm with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. Margie will be buried at Brookside Cemetery at 1:30 pm on Monday. Memorial Contributions may be made to Cunningham Nursing Scholarship at Lake Superior State University or St. Simon Food Bank.
