Obituary for Vincent Sanford Otteson

Vincent Sanford Otteson
Vincent Sanford Otteson, of Mears, MI, passed away on November 7, 2014, at age 84, on the one year anniversary of his wife’s death. He passed away peacefully at home with his children by his side.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Susan Otteson; son Christopher Birke Otteson; granddaughter Micah Renee Otteson; sister Claudette Clark (Otteson); and many nieces, nephews and their children. We hope he is happy being reunited with his wife of 54 years, Isabel, as well as his parents, sisters and brother who preceded him in death.

Vince served in the Air Force as an Airman First Class and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in July of 1954. He met his future wife when they were both instructors at Arthur Murray in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He also owned a shoe store in Buchanan, Michigan, for several years and during his tenure in Buchanan, was active in the community, serving on the DDA, helping run the annual tennis tournaments and was a member of both the Elks and Moose lodges. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf, shuffleboard and bocce ball and spent hours watching the Western channel on TV. After retiring from real estate, his favorite pastime was having coffee every morning with his group of friends. He enjoyed meeting up with them at Silver Lake or in Mears and considered those very happy hours well spent.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and uncle who will be missed by family and friends. He did not wish to have a funeral or memorial, but family and friends are welcome to contact the family for an escort to the cemetery and privacy to pay final respects, if desired. He will be laid to rest in the Hart Cemetery plot that he will share with his wife.
