Obituary for William August Karlsen

William August Karlsen passed away on Friday, November 16th at his home. He was born in Brooklyn, New York November 9th 1917. He lived his childhood days in the suburbs of Chicago. He attended many summer church camps where he met his wife to be and later married Dorothy Abrahamson from Ludington in 1940.

He was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter. He loved deer camp with his friends and family for over 50 years. He was planning to attend hunt camp with his son, grandson and great grandson the day he died.

When Bill moved to Ludington he became part owner of the Market Basket and later joined his father-in-law at Abrahamson Neirheim Company. When the business was sold he ended his career in the insurance business.

Bill was very involved in Township and County Politics. He was County Commissioner for fourteen years and served as Chairmen his final year. He also served on the Hamlin Board of Appeals.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2004, and three brothers Sid and Howard Sorensen and Stanley Karlsen. He will be sadly missed by his family which includes his daughter Sandra Heme of Savanagh, Georgia, Karen (Jim) Hernly of Cheboygan and his son Bill (Gloria) Karlsen of Holland. Bill’s grandchildren Keisha (Jeff) Veryser of Boyne City, Kai (Holly) Karlsen of Ludington. Great grandchildren, Dylan Karlsen, Kamryn and Sydney Veryser.
