Obituary for Ronald Arthur Showalter

Ronald Arthur Showalter, age 81 of Manistee, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday April 21, 2023.

He was born on November 5, 1941, in Bear Lake, Michigan, the son of the late Harvey J. and Seraphia (Patterson) Showalter. Ronald was a graduate of Onekama High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 until he was honorably discharged in 1966. He went on to attend classes at West Shore Community College. Ronald married Rosemary Zawacki.

Ronald was employed at Excello Corporation in Manistee until the company closed its operation in Manistee.
He was a devoted member of Divine Mercy Parish, as well as the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic War Veterans. Ronald would often minister to people in jail and prison, which he found great pride in.

Ronald enjoyed woodworking, gardening, planting flowers, and fishing. He also loved antiquing, where he would often find wonderful antiques, refurbish them, and sell them. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he loved very much.

He is survived by his daughter Susan Marie Showalter; his son Jeffrey Michael Showalter; his brother-in-law Lewis Pettis; sister-in-law Rose Marie Showalter; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his siblings JoAnn Hutchinson, Bonnajean Pettis, Harvey Showalter, Audrey Cady, Jacqueline Jones-Vaughn, Anna Somero, Rosalyn Soller, and infant brother Joseph Oliver Showalter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Father Basil Lek celebrant. Ronald will be laid to rest at Mount Carmel Cemetery, where Military Honors will be held after the mass.

Relatives and friends will pray the Rosary Thursday evening, April 27, 2023, at 6:30 PM at the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee. The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00PM and from 10:00AM until procession to the church at 10:30AM.
