Obituary for Dennis Cyril La Porte
Dennis Cyril La Porte, age 73, of Irons, passed away on Tuesday January 31, 2023 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He was born on November 3, 1949, in Ludington, Michigan, the son of Steve and Juanita (Phillips) La Porte. Dennis graduated from Fruitport High School and went on to proudly serve in the United States Navy as a communications specialist before he was honorably discharged in 1972. On June 8, 2013, he married Gloria A. DuRussel in Irons, Michigan.
Dennis was a supervisor for Metro Pace Construction (Commercial Construction) in Virginia before retiring.
He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Irons, the American Legion, and the VFW.
In his spare time, Dennis enjoyed reading and spending his time in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Gloria La Porte; step-mother Dee La Porte of Irons; sons D.J. (Lois) Grudzinski, Buddy (Brenda) Sigmon, William (Pam Vaughn) Sigmon all of Virginia, and Clark Sigmon of Florida; numerous grandchildren; Stepchildren Jeremy (Debbie) Mulholland, Patrick (Stacy) Mulholland, and Krystal Mulholland all of Detroit; one sister Ann Gable of Scottville; and two nieces and one nephew.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father Steve, his mother Juanita Vokal, and his brother Bruce La Porte.
A Celebration of Life for Dennis will be held on Saturday April 29, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the Wellston Community Center.
