Obituary for Phyllis Marie Greve

Phyllis Marie Greve passed away peacefully at Alamo Nursing Home on January 25, 2023.

She was born on June 6, 1924, in Manistee and was the daughter of the late Neil and Grace Chesebro. Phyllis graduated from Manistee High School in 1942. On August 28, 1948, she married Jack Greve in South Bend, Indiana. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1964.

For Phyllis to have the means to raise her 4 children, she started her own business doing accounting and tax returns from her home. While doing this, she studied and was very proud to earn her title as Enrolled Agent from the IRS. She operated this business from 1964 until 2004. Along with this she was active in the Washington School PTA and the Cub Scouts.

Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, and traveling. Her travels took her to all 50 states, as well as to Europe, The Holy Land, Asia and Australia. Travel brought her much joy. She had fond memories from vacations she had taken, especially those with her children and grandchildren.

Phyllis was a long-time active member of the Manistee United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being a member of the UMC Women and JOY Groups. She served as church treasurer for 20 years and after that volunteered to be financial secretary for another 20 years.

She is survived by her four children; Kathie (Jerry) Jaloszynski of Mt. Pleasant, Ron (Mary) Greve of Muskegon, Jackie (Bob) Baker of Manistee, and David (Michelle) Greve of Richland; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and sister-in-laws, Karen Chesebro and Mary Lou Schut.

She was preceded in death by James and Robert Chesebro, her two brothers.

Memorial Services will be held at the Manistee United Methodist Church on February 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be directed to the United Methodist Church.
