Obituary for Kathy Louise Sam

Kathy Louise Sam (MshKwanegedoo Kwe), age 68 of Manistee, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

She was born on October 27, 1954, in Wellston, MI., the daughter of Spencer Sam and Clara Thomas Sam. Kathy was a proud Elder of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. She also considered Christian Faith Church Int’l in Manistee her spiritual home and family.

Kathy was a talented artist and enjoyed woodburning and beading. In January of 2012, Kathy was a featured artist of Heartside Gallery and Studio in Grand Rapids for her paintings. She was also well known for her laughter and sense of humor.

She is survived by three brothers Charles Sam of Grawn, MI, Carl Ingraham of Cadillac, MI and Gilbert Sam of Ann Arbor, MI; three adult children Corey Wells, Victoria Wells, and Joseph Wells, all of Manistee; six grandchildren Josclyn, Jalissa, Jacob, Jasmine, Jacquelyn, and Jessie James and their mother Julie Wolfe; beloved great-grandchildren KiwedinAnung, Niigaanii, Waasamoog, and Waawaate. Her cherished friends and caretakers Jessica Colwell and Gaye Guillen also survive her.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Spencer and Clara and her siblings Marie Raymo, George Sam, Harry Sam, Diane Sam, Kenny Sam, and Steven Sam.

Memorial Services for Kathy will be held on Saturday January 28, 2023, at Christian Faith Church Int’l, located at 55 Division Street in Manistee, at 11:00 AM, with Pastors Bill and Laurie Willis officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Following the memorial service, a light lunch will be served at the church for family and friends.
