Obituary for Javier "JV" Guillen
Javier “JV” Guillen, age 74 of Manistee, passed away on Tuesday January 10, 2023, at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey.
He was born on December 3, 1949, in Corpus Christi, Texas, the son of Franasco “Shorty” and Luz (Garza) Guillen. JV attended school in Corpus Christi and then went to Kennedy School in Manistee and Manistee High School.
JV was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
There were many things that JV loved to do. He loved being outside; always keeping busy till the day he died. He would run circles around an eighteen-year-old at the age of 70. He enjoyed keeping his yard in impeccable shape. He had a lot of pride and carried that into whatever he did. He was very family oriented and if anyone needed anything, JV was ALWAYS there to help.
From work to family and friends, when it was time to wind down you could go to the Jailhouse Bar and find JV drinking a cold Busch Light even though he really wanted a rum and coke. Everyone in Manistee knew that he was not to be served a rum and coke or he’d be dancing on the table. Boy did he dance like a rockstar; John Travolta watch out.
JV is survived by his daughters Tamara Guillen, Chasity Johnson, and Sarah (Jason) Olk; stepchildren Kari Warren and Rusty Manke; grandsons James Michael Johnson III and Chase Olk; step granddaughter Amyha Manke; siblings Albert Guillen and his wife, Richard (Cheryl) Guillen Sr., and Jaynie (Bryon) Bash; sister-in-law Theresa Guillen; his fur babies Harley and Peanut; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father Francisco and his mother Luz; brothers Ruben, Gilbert, Frank, Arnoldo, Charlie, and Israel Guillen; sister Angelita Guillen; and his significant other Patty Potter.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Jailhouse Bar on Saturday January 21, 2023, at 12:00PM. In honor of JV, please wear Michigan colors.
