Obituary for Steve Allen "Fred" Fredricks

Steve Allen “Fred” Fredricks, 70, died peacefully surrounded by his family on December 3, 2022, at his Farm after a long battle of cancer.

Steve was born on July 2, 1952, in Manistee, Michigan to Otto and Faye Fredricks.

Steve was the owner and operator of Great Lakes Batteries, among other jobs. Steve was known for his work in the Insurance business for over 20 years.

Steve met the love of his life, Shirley Keson, in 1970; he charmed her with his witty sense of humor and his love to make others laugh. They married on June 23, 1973 and were married for 49 1/2 years. They raised 3 children, Jaime & Chad Colby, Kim & Deric Evans, and Luke & Katie Fredricks. He was also a proud papa to 4 grandchildren, Peyton & Makenzie Evans, CJ Colby and Jace Fredricks.

He survived by 3 sisters, Julie (the late Dave Maddox), Lori & Kevin Kimball, and Jo Ellen & Bob Alexander, amongst many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Otto & Faye and brothers Michael and Robert Fredricks.

Steve’s true passion was spending time with family and friends; he had an uncanny ability to tell stories using his humor and wise remarks. He also loved farming, collecting tractors and spoiling his grandchildren.

Steve had a soft spot for helping others through hard times, although never wanted to be recognized for his kind heart. He was a true inspiration to so many and will continue to be, he fought with grace and strength and was fearless and determined till the end.

Pops you taught us to cherish every moment big and small, to keep life in perspective and to treasure everyday like it was your last. We will cherish these memories forever; you are gone but never forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held December 9, 2022, at Manistee Township Hall from 1:00 until 3:00 PM and in his fashion will continue to celebrate at Chopo’s Northside Bar.

In lieu of flowers, we ask you to please donate and support our local Stomp Out Cancer fund or Tight Lines for Troops.
