Obituary for Richard Monroe Giffels

Richard Monroe Giffels, age 81 of Wellston, MI died Saturday, July 23, 2022 at The Maples-Benzie County Medical Care Facility in Frankfort.

He was born on March 16, 1941 in Alma, MI the son of the late Allen Peter & Marjorie (Clark) Giffels. He was a 1959 graduate of Alma High School. On July 2, 1961 he married Myrle Katherine Nelson at the Cherry Grove Nazarene Church in Cadillac. She preceded him in death on October 15, 2020.

Richard was employed in forestry for many years until he began a career as a cross country truck driver from 1984-1990. He also repaired TV’s and vacuums.

He was a member of the Kaleva Bible Church and a Volunteer Firefighter/First Responder for the Norman Township Fire Department for 40+ years. He loved traveling, old country western music, and old western shows.

Survivors include three children; Gail (Darryl) Krause, Dennis (Peggy) Giffels, and Sheila (Daniel) Pachesny, grandchildren; Aaron (Ashly) Krause, Amber (Austin) Ireland, Matthew Giffels, Mitch (Taylor) Giffels, Sutton Giffels, April (Joe) Pachesny-Amond, Cara (Jeff) Pachesny, Shawna, Ridge, & Kendra Pachesny, great grandchildren; Thayn, Madison, Haily, Ariana, Ethan, & Houston, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Richard M. Giffels will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Kaleva Bible Church with Pastor Dave Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM until time of service. A luncheon will follow.

Memorials in Richard’s name may be directed to the Kaleva Bible Church or The Norman Township Fire Department (NTFDA).
