Obituary for John "Jack" Reed
John “Jack” Reed age 83, of Bear Lake, passed away on Wednesday April 6, 2022, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI.
Jack was born on September 1, 1938, in Traverse City to Catherine Reed. He graduated from Manistee High School, class of 1957. He married Dorothea Slagal of Honor on October 8, 1960, in Benzonia and they shared 61 years together.
He went on to proudly served in the Michigan National Guard for eight years. After that he was a Power trucker and worked in the yard at Packaging Corporation of America for 42 years before retiring in February of 2001.
Jack enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, golfing, and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothea; children Todd (Mary) Reed, Johnna (Bob) Sanderson, and Scott (Gina) Reed; grandchildren Heather (Brian) Diehr, Justin Reed, Cody Reed, Bob Gillespie, Angie (Casey) Czerniawski, and Amber Johnson; siblings Karen (Bob) Wendt and Barb (Jerry) Zupin; numerous nieces and nephews; and special in-laws Shirley (Ray) Jurczak and Jerry (Shirley) Slagal.
Jack was preceded in death by Catherine and Carl Hull, brother Bob Hull, and sister Judy Kulawiak.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held on Saturday May 28, 2022, from 1:00 PM till 4:00 PM at the Farr Center, 5283 Main Street, Onekama, MI 49675.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to Homeward Bound Animal Shelter, 736 Paws Trail, P.O. Box 144, Manistee, MI 49660.
