Obituary for Eugene Alton Cook
Eugene Alton Cook, age 82, passed away on Wednesday March 16, 2022, in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on June 27, 1939, in Muskegon, Michigan, the son of the late Morey and Alleyne (Dennis) Cook. Eugene married Myra Groendal on March 12, 1960, in Muskegon and they were able to share 62 wonderful years together.
Eugene was a small business owner and a sub-contractor for most of his life. His small business consisted of many different ventures. He had also worked for the Fruitport Fire and Police Department as a volunteer before moving up to Manistee.
He enjoyed spending time restoring cars and trucks, hunting, camping, and traveling. He even tried out spear fishing, but that didn’t work out too well for him, so he gave that up. Eugene loved family gatherings. Above all else, he enjoyed proving his children wrong.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Myra; his children Eugene (Carla) Cook Jr., Todd (Julie) Cook, Michael (Penny), Carmen (Don) Cook, and Chad (Brandi) Cook; many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; siblings Eunice (Bill) Ball, Sharon Lepley, Morey Cook, Dennis (Deb) Cook, and Becky (Joe) Babcock; as well as other family and friends.
Besides for his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his siblings John Cook, Noreen Hewitt, and Hope Reed; his sister-in-law Sheri Cook; and his granddaughter Cara Cook.
A memorial service for Eugene will be held on Friday March 25, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
