Obituary for Richard H. LaRue

On January 16, 2022, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Richard H. LaRue (Rick) ventured to the great golf course in heaven.
Rick lived life on his own terms which sparked many adventures within his chosen career fields and numerous personal interests. He was born in Grand Haven Michigan where he learned to love (hate) blueberries and the game of golf. He began as a caddy where his passion for the game eventually elevated him to a club professional at the St. Clair River C.C. He later worked in the hospitality industry, managing hotel properties in the Detroit area along with what is now the Rivers Bend Marina in St. Clair. Oddly enough his contacts in the hospitality field steered him toward a career in law enforcement where he had a 24-year career with the St. Clair County Sherriff’s Department working everything from their marine division to serving as the youth services detective for over a decade, achieving the rank of Lieutenant.
In retirement, he stayed busy running an amateur golf tour and creating the Baker College of Port Huron’s Campus Safety Program. He also worked for the Butler County Sheriff in Alabama while playing the golf courses of the Robert Trent Jones Trail. He cherished his time in Montana where he spent time with his beloved Uncle Perl and went hunting with friends from home and those, he made in Big Sky Country. Always willing to help others outside his immediate circle; he lived a full and honorable life.
He is survived by his wife Barbra, daughter Rachel (John) Blackwell, sons Trip (Elizabeth) and Brett (Barbara), stepchildren Abbey (Joe) Touchette and Robert Treat, siblings Jacqueline, James, Kenneth, and Sally, and his devoted grandchildren in Michigan, Colorado, and Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hazel and Harold LaRue and his sister Jeri.
In honor of his request there will be no funeral, he will be cremated and has asked that all who knew him, take a moment to recall a favorite memory of his time here.
Please feel free to share a memory or photo with the family at www.oakgrovefh.com. The family has entrusted funeral arrangements with Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee, Michigan.
