Ruth Santina Hassinger, known to her loved ones as Tina, died at the age of 87 on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at her home in Manistee.

Tina came as a late Christmas gift, born on December 28, 1933 in Muskegon. Tina was the daughter of the late Sidney & Mary (Simonelli) Zaagman. Tina grew up in Muskegon where she met and married her husband of 68 years, Bill Hassinger. Tina was an amazing wife and mother to her three children. For years she volunteered her time teaching, organizing events, hosting gatherings and much more. Not only was Tina dedicated to her family, but she was also dedicated to her second family through her husband – The Michigan State Police. She has always been an active member in her community and church. Since residing in Manistee in 1993, she has been a member of the Manistee United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Tina really enjoyed to travel with her husband, visiting every state except Colorado.

She is survived by her loving husband Bill Hassinger of Manistee, daughter; Mari Dawn Gladish of Manistee, grandchildren; Dylan & Rick Hassinger, Jessica (Jeremy) DeRosia of Manistee, and Franklin & Martha Loomis, great grandson; Michael DeRosia, & Brother; Jack (Gayle) Zaagman of Muskegon as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sons; Greg & Richard Hassinger of Kalamazoo, and by brothers; Lambert & Sam Zaagman,

Per her wishes no service will be held. Please direct any gifts or donations to the Manistee United Methodist Church.

Please share a memory with the family at Arrangements by Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee.

In 1969 David and I were stationed to our first MSP post in Romeo, Michigan. It was the farthest I had ever been away from my family. Trying to adjust to being the wife of a Trooper had many challenges. I remember Tina coming to my rescue, with an invitation to my first Wife's Club meeting. She introduced me to all the other wives, and before long I felt like I had a whole new family. Her dedication to being an important part of our Michigan State Police family was unmatched. I will forever appreciate her counsel and support as I tried to adjust to this new way of life. She was always there, and will continue to live on in my memories. Our condolences to Bill and family. Chari Smith and D/Lt. Ret. David Smith

Our deepest sympathy To Bill & Tina's family. Bill & I were roommates in recruit school & had the pleasure of meeting Tina on several occcasions during our years with the MSP. She was a very gracious and pleasant lady. There is no doubt that there will be a deep void in the lives of her friends & family....Joel & Georgene Gorzen

My deepest heartfelt condolences to Bill & the rest of the Hassinger Family for their loss of a most wonderful loving, caring, wife, mother, Grandmother, and much much more..
Tina was always an Angel …now she has “officially” received her wings and is enjoying “Gods Cathedral” in his beautiful heavenly Gardens.
Tina hasn’t really left for she’s part of the entire family thru the many fond memories that will always be imprinted for all of time in everyone’s heart & mind. You WILL see her again when God calls US Home.
Blessings and Gods Grace be with you all.
It was an honor and privilege to have known Tina all these years…..
As a young Trooper back in 1965 to present.. Tina will always have a Special place in my Heart.

Our sincere condolences to the Hassinger family for their loss. Judy and I have very fond memories of Tina Hassinger and Col. Hassinger, (then First Lieutenant), when we lived on the same street in Romeo. Tina Hassinger was a gracious, intelligent, and classy lady. She was always friendly and had a presence where ever she went. I'm sure she will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family. Rest in peace Tina.
