Obituary for Mary Alice Hansen (Popkowski)

Mary Alice Hansen, Age 87 of Manistee, Michigan died March 21, 2021 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City, Michigan.

She was born on October 11, 1933 in Manistee, MI the daughter of the late John & Mary (Cicholski) Popkowski. She graduated Valedictorian of Saint Joseph Catholic School class of 1951. On May 29, 1954 she married Kenneth H. (Dugan) Hansen at Saint Joseph Church in Manistee. He preceded her in death on January 21, 1991.

Mary Alice had been employed as shipping supervisor at the Glen of Michigan for 15 years. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish (St. Mary’s Church). Mary Alice loved the beach, walking the Riverwalk, traveling with family, taking care of grandbabies, and spending time with family & friends. She always had a very special bond with her niece Mary Greiner who she loved dearly, and Mary’s husband L.J. who had many “dates” with mom. Mary Alice was a huge Young & The Restless fan, as well as Columbo, and westerns, so much that her children were as well, and enjoyed those too.

She is survived by her three children, son; Ken (Barb) Hansen of Manistee, grandchildren; Heather Johnson, Ryan & Nicholas Hansen all of Manistee & Logan Hansen of Chicago, and great grandchildren; Cleo Johnson, Oliver Hansen, and Parker & Ellery Hansen, daughter; Carol (Mark) Miehlke of Manistee, grandchildren; Shawn (Veronica) Miehlke of South Weber, Utah, and Shana Miehlke of Ashburn, VA, and step-great grandchildren; Lily, Sophie, Hazel. & Jack Keeve of Utah, and daughter; Connie (George) Ott of Greenville, South Carolina, granddaughters; Andrea Davis (Mike Martin) of Portage, MI, and Morgan (Jake) Pristas of Grand Rapids, MI, and great granddaughter Madison Martin of Portage.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her siblings; Walter (Opal) Popkowski, Donald (Vera) Popkowski, and Gertrude (Gerald) Baker.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Father Zeljko Guberovic celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service
