Obituary for Kenneth Edward "Big Hoop" Hooper

Kenneth Edward Hooper, known to many as “Big Hoop”, age 61 of Manistee, passed away on Tuesday April 20, 2021 at Manistee County Medical Care Facility.

He was born on December 27, 1959 in Ypsilanti, MI, son of the Leo Hooper, Sr. and Estella “Peggy” (Brown) Hooper. Ken attended Wayne Memorial High School, graduating with the class of 1978. He worked as an assembler at IAC (International Automotive Components) in Warren, for 29 years before retiring in August of 2018 to move to Manistee.

His strength was matched only by his kindness and generosity. No longer constrained by the earthly chains of pain and suffering, his sweet soul and warrior spirit can now soar. Ken’s big heart and contagious spirit was loved by many. He always had a smile on his face, even through life’s toughest battles. He will live on through the memories of family and friends. He was a member of the Masons of Manistee and Westland and enjoyed hunting, fishing, helping others and spending time with his family, especially his grandson.

Ken is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Hooper of Manistee; grandson, Keagan Hudson; mother, Estella “Peggy” Hooper; sister, Patty (Stan) Phillips of Westland; brothers James Hooper of Westland and Don (Melissa) Hooper of Canton; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Leo Hooper, Sr.; and brother, Leo Calvin Hooper, II.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date and will be held at Uht Funeral home in Westland, MI. He will be deeply missed and may his soul rest in eternal peace.
