Obituary for Hyacinth V. Badalamente (Klement)

Hyacinth V. Badalamente, 90, of Manistee, MI & Avon Park, FL, with family at her side, peacefully left her earthly home on Monday, February 22, 2021.

Hyacinth was born December 10, 1930, in Waukechon, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Griepp) Klement. After graduation from Shawano High school, Hyacinth attended Columbia School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, earning her RN degree. While in Milwaukee she met David Badalamente and they were married on June 13, 1953. After their marriage they initially settled in Muskegon, MI before moving to Manistee in 1955. In 1959 they purchased the Gambles Hardware, later Dave’s True Value, which they operated until their retirement in 1996.

During their years in Manistee Hyacinth was both an Obstetrics & Delivery nurse and an Intensive Care nurse, first at Mercy Hospital and then after taking time off to raise children, at West Shore Hospital. She always loved to garden and had both a large vegetable garden and flower gardens for years.

After retiring Hyacinth and David enjoyed traveling through much of our country in their motor home. They finally decided to snowbird at Lake Bonnet Village in Avon Park, Florida, during the winter months. After Dave passed in 2006, Hyacinth continued her love of driving and travel, and toured the country in her small motor home on her way to and from Florida. Her friends at Lake Bonnet Village became Hy’s family for half the year, filling the void the loss of her beloved husband left. In 2018, at the age of 87, Hyacinth realized a dream to travel internationally and spent three weeks touring Europe on a river cruise, thanks to the encouragement from her Manistee coffee clutch friends.

Hyacinth was a member of First Baptist Church in Manistee and the Lake Bonnet Village Fellowship in Florida.
Hyacinth is survived by: her children and their spouses, David D. (Sue) Badalamente of Manistee, Gail Badalamente of Manistee, Tia (Jim) Alexander of Burlington, WI, Keith (Kathie) Badalamente of Roswell, GA Keven (Caroline) Badalamente of Wayland; two grandsons and their spouses Clay (Meredith) Alexander and Luke (Zoe) Alexander; and two great grandchildren James & Emma Alexander; brother Jonathan (Marilyn) Klement of Sagamore Hills, OH. and by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vicki Jo, her husband David, her parents, and her brother David.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, February 27 at First Baptist Church in Manistee with Pastor Philip Harrell officiating. Family will receive visitors at the church for the hour before the service. Internment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano, WI.

The family requests that those wishing to remember Hyacinth consider a gift to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

The family is being served by the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Manistee, MI. Please share a memory at www.oakgrovefh.com.
