Obituary for Lynn Edward Edmondson Sr.

Lynn Edward Edmondson, Sr. age 83, of Manistee and formerly of Pierport, passed away on Thursday December 10, 2020 at home with his daughter by his side.
He was born on February 19, 1937 in Manistee, son of the late Erford D. and Evelyn Grace (Patterson) Edmondson. He attended Parkdale School, Guardian Angels School, and then Manistee High School, where he graduated with the class of 1956.
Lynn continued his education at Hackley Manual Training in Muskegon, graduating in 1960 as a journeyman Iron Worker thru Local #340 out of Battle Creek.
He was a State certified bridge structural and ornamental Ironworker and #1 state certified welder and #1 international representative for building the cement plant in Charlevoix. Lynn also helped to build the Pump Storage Plant in Ludington and many other projects over the years. He retired at 50 years of age, with 30 years as an Ironworker.
On September 8, 1956 he married Sharon Bradford of Arcadia. They built their home and raised their family in Pierport, until Sharon’s passing on March 23, 1994. Lynn and Sharon had 3 children, Lynn, Jr., Sheila and Shari.
In July of 1994 he met his second wife, Mary Esther (Bolinger) Cabot-Robertson. On July 19, 1997 they married at the Edmondson cabin on the Little Manistee River in Udell Hills.
Lynn and Essie spent time traveling the U.S. seeing family and friends. They shared a lot in common and enjoyed life to the fullest! Camping, gardening, playing cards, cribbage and going to the Senior Center. Essie preceded him in death on August 25, 2015.
He spent a lot of time with his sister Mary, who was fighting cancer. They were very close sibling thru the years.
Lynn served in the Michigan Army National Guard, serving in Grayling from 1954 to 1960, and in the reserves until 1962.
He was a member of the Onekama Lions Club for over 25 years. Serving as King Lion, he received the Lion of the year award in 2012. He also served on the Onekama School Board from 1976 to 1980, Centre Wellness Board for Manistee/Benzie Counties, past member of the Eagles Club, past member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the American Legion Post 10, where Betty would make his “Special” Manhattan’s!
Bowled on the men’s and mixed leagues and bowled in the Peterson Classics. He also played slow pitch softball for many years, for different teams in the county. He enjoyed going to the 4H shows at the Onekama Fair grounds, buying the livestock that his 2 granddaughters showed (cattle and sheep).
He hosted many home new years eve parties. With hot and heavy pinochle card games! As an avid hunter, he also got a buck every year. 4 seasons of fishing and spring and fall mushroom hunting.
Lynn is survived by his daughters, Sheila (Patrick Pruyne) Cobb of Manistee and Shari (Kevin) Haddrill of Lady Lake, FL; granddaughters, Christina Cobb of Manistee, Valerie (Sam) Smith of Troy, KS and Leah (Zack) Bajos of Charlevoix; great-grandchildren, London and Jasper O’Neil both of Manistee, Clint and Kurt Smith both of Troy, KS, Rhyan and Rhett Bajos both of Charlevoix; step-daughter, Judy (Rick) Dean of Cadillac; 2 step-sons-in-law, Milford Sage of Manistee and Roger (Pam) Wade of Gladwin; 6 step-grandchildren; 8 great step-grandchildren; brothers, James (Sharon) Edmondson, Larry (Rosemary) Edmondson and George (Sue) Edmondson all of Manistee; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Sharon and Mary Esther; son, Lynn Edmondson, Jr.; son-in-law, Verl “Gene” Cobb; brothers, Dale and Roy (Hilda) Edmondson; sisters, Mary (Walt) Moskalski and Reta Racine; and step-daughters, Penny Wade and Bonnie Sage.
A time of visitation for Lynn will be held from 12:00PM until 2:00PM on Friday December 18, 2020 at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee with a private family service to follow with Pastor Lonnie Wilkerson officiating. Final interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Onekama.
The family asks for everyone to wear a mask and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
