Obituary for Hazel Mildred Wood (Hoage)

Hazel Mildred Weber Wood passed away of natural causes on May 4, 2020, in Ludington, Michigan. Our grandmother had a long healthy life of 104 years, not that she’d tell you that!

Hazel was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on November 3, 1915. Hazel had one sister named Vivian. Her mother was a homemaker and father worked for the railroad. She outlived her 3 husbands (Hobe, Donald, Frank), 4 children (Gordon, Steve, Karen, Syndy) and 2 very dear like daughters (Vicki, Kathy). Hazel is survived by 5 grandchildren (Kristina, Andrea, Ericka, Donald, Harold) and 8 great-grandchildren (Kendal, Nicholas, Jordan, Brendan, Hayden, Maya, Henry, Dan). Hazel spent some of her early years in Florida with her first husband but, the majority of her life was spent in Michigan. Donald Weber was her second husband and the love of her life. They traveled to many places together but she told us many times Hawaii was her favorite vacation.

During her life, she overcame many obstacles with her strong faith in the love of God. Hazel was a fashionista always having matching clothes, shoes, and jewelry! Eyebrows were a must right up to the end. Sewing was another passion for her; she made many amazing full-size quilts, most of which were hand sewn. Arthritis made these large quilts difficult, then switched to making baby quilts which she donated to local hospitals.

Hazel lived many years at Aurora Ponds retirement village and made several friends. She said it was like living on a cruise ship! There were always things to do and the food never ended. As her dementia continued she moved to Manistee with Kristina. Oh, she sure got more than she bargained for with her grandson and his dog!

We will always remember our time with our grandmother and know she has now joined our other dear family members in heaven.
