Hazel Mildred Weber Wood passed away of natural causes on May 4, 2020, in Ludington, Michigan. Our grandmother had a long healthy life of 104 years, not that she’d tell you that!

Hazel was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on November 3, 1915. Hazel had one sister named Vivian. Her mother was a homemaker and father worked for the railroad. She outlived her 3 husbands (Hobe, Donald, Frank), 4 children (Gordon, Steve, Karen, Syndy) and 2 very dear like daughters (Vicki, Kathy). Hazel is survived by 5 grandchildren (Kristina, Andrea, Ericka, Donald, Harold) and 8 great-grandchildren (Kendal, Nicholas, Jordan, Brendan, Hayden, Maya, Henry, Dan). Hazel spent some of her early years in Florida with her first husband but, the majority of her life was spent in Michigan. Donald Weber was her second husband and the love of her life. They traveled to many places together but she told us many times Hawaii was her favorite vacation.

During her life, she overcame many obstacles with her strong faith in the love of God. Hazel was a fashionista always having matching clothes, shoes, and jewelry! Eyebrows were a must right up to the end. Sewing was another passion for her; she made many amazing full-size quilts, most of which were hand sewn. Arthritis made these large quilts difficult, then switched to making baby quilts which she donated to local hospitals.

Hazel lived many years at Aurora Ponds retirement village and made several friends. She said it was like living on a cruise ship! There were always things to do and the food never ended. As her dementia continued she moved to Manistee with Kristina. Oh, she sure got more than she bargained for with her grandson and his dog!

We will always remember our time with our grandmother and know she has now joined our other dear family members in heaven.

Hazel was an awesome lady! She was my 2nd mom. I have been blessed to have had her in my life. My best friend, Karen, was Hazel's daughter. I have so many loving memories with her, she will never be forgotten. Hazel was the true meaning of a lady. Loved her.

I will always remember with fondness the amazing lady named Hazel Wood. She was a joy to work with when she was at SLC. Her stories intriguing and her gratitude was genuine. Her memory will always bring a smile to my face. I am grateful to have shared a small part of her life.

It was truly an honor to know and take care of Hazel at Sutter.. She had such an upbeat attitude was always thanked me for whatever I had helped her with! Her hair, make up and eye brows always had to be perfect! She would say How do I look? I would say beautiful... She would laugh and say Your a nut!😂 We shared many laughs together. Hazel will be missed Rest in peace

There are so many memories I have with Grandma how do you capture a lifetime? I spent many many many weekends, summers, holidays, and vacations with her growing up. Some of my favorite memories are:

She made the best cheesecake with Lemon Jello that I requested for each and every birthday.
When she and Grandpa came to Christmas the car was loaded down with tons of presents (they were so generous!).
Her favorite color was blue, she ate more sweets than food, she hated elevators, and she had a million pairs of shoes.
Lastly, she & Grandpa had a blue pacer lol…..What a weird car!

Over the years Grandma and I went to many new restaurants, attended theatre productions, and hit the latest movies. Hazel was always up for an adventure! I wouldn’t change anything about our life together. I will deeply miss her but, know she is being her feisty self up in heaven. Mom, you skipped your turn on earth, tag your it!

I hope that anyone who knew her will post a funny story, memory with her, and a photo for us to celebrate her life.
