Ronald Leo Sutter, 81, of Manistee, Michigan passed away, Sunday December 1st, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.

Ronald was born on November 5, 1938 in Chesaning, Michigan to Leo and Eleanor (Vilatel) Sutter. Ron also served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1958 to 1962. He was one of the first 1500 marines in Vietnam, spending two years in Okinawa, Japan. Ron lived his early life in Owosso, MI where he met his loving wife, Sallie Lee Bannister, of 51 years. In 1984 they moved to Manistee, Michigan where he spent the rest of his days.

Ron had an unquestionable love for his family and always took the time to help out a friend. Ron had an energy level that was unmatched, which was why he excelled in everything he did. He was a charter captain, a pilot, a builder, and a business owner. There was nothing that Ron could not do. He loved spending time in Canada, fishing with family and friends.

Ron is survived by his wife, Sallie, his daughter Carla (Scott) Soper of Manistee, MI, and his son Timothy (Darene) Sutter of Manistee, MI. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Blake Soper, Reanna Sutter, Conner Sutter and Brennen Sutter.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ron’s name can be directed to the Ronald L. Sutter Scholarship Fund c/o Manistee County Community Foundation - 395 Third St. Manistee, MI 49660 or

Ron I am so sorry to hear of your passing. The stories and laughs we had back in the day and you had all of the girls attention. Of course Sallie kept you in line ! Such great teenage memories with Carla and the entire family at your home and in your company. It was always so much fun to wake you up after a night out. Rest In Peace. You were an amazing husband, father and role model for us all. You always had a comment to share. Thoughts and prayers Re with you Carla, Sallie, Little Timmy and your families. Love Denise Vadeboncoeur- Naeyaert

Funny, playful, opinionated, hard working, and clever. That is how I will remember the Dad of one of my best friends (Ron's daughter, Carla). He and his wife opened up their home to us many times for a 'we need a break' weekend. We had great food, conversation and a ton of laughs. You will be missed, Ron. Hugs, Heather
