They don't make them like they used to. You hear it a lot in reference to cars, toys, anything you can purchase. It applies here, in this case for a man, because there aren't men like Larry Jensen around much anymore. He was like a second father to me and second grandpa to my son, Brandon. He'd sit at a table and watch him play with his trains over his cup of coffee. He talked to him like a person, not like a kid running around pestering. He did the same for me when I was his age. He did the same for me when I was older too with advice when things weren't going how I thought they should or I was dealing with the inevitable mistakes of adolescence. He was a pillar in my life, one that held me up when I'd fall down. One I could count on to be there at Mom and Dad's when I needed someone to tell me exactly what I needed to hear, not just what I wanted to. He served his country, in a way most can't even comprehend, and rarely spoke of it except in some candid moments looking out into the field past my parent's. He wasn't seeing the field at that point, he was seeing a jungle far away and a group of scared kids doing the best the could. I never said it in real life, maybe because it's just how men work, but I love you Larry. I miss you so much and I don't know rightly what I'm going to do moving forward and if I can be 1% the man, father, husband, or even human you were I'll be satisfied. Thank you for everything, and thank you for treating my son so well. One day, when we meet again, I hope I can tell you that I lived a life you'd have been proud of. You were one of a kind Larry, and you are missed. They just don't make them like they used to, indeed.

Scary Larry,
Certainly going to miss you intimidating all my friends and coworkers. Going to miss teasing you about missing deer. Whether it was over coffee at my parents or by the lake while I was working you always had a smile on your face. Your captivating stories about the good old days I will pass on best I can but it won't be the same. The world lost a good one, an American Hero, great husband, great father, great grandfather and someone my son Battle and I were fortunate enough to call a friend. Rest easy and I will see you again...

Love,
Brandon Gillispie
