Obituary for Jerry Walter Schimke

Jerry W. Schimke, Age 77 of Manistee died Saturday, January 5, 2019 at his home with his family by his side peacefully in his sleep.
He was born on October 29, 1941 in Manistee Township the son of the late Walter G. & Audrey L. (Anderson) Schimke. He was a 1959 graduate of Onekama High School. Jerry enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany during the Vietnam Era. On April 30, 1966 he married Judy Horina at her parent’s home in Hoxeyville.
Jerry had been employed as a lab analyst at Martin Marietta for 37 years, retiring on October 30, 2003. Jerry also loved farming and his many barn cats and continued to farm until the summer of 2018.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Onekama. He enjoyed many years of bowling, participating in as many as three leagues during a season.
Survivors include his wife; Judy, his children; Anne (Jodie) Schimke of Ainsworth, IA, Joe (Ronda) Schimke of Scottville, Melissa (Bob) Renner, & John (Elaine Bossingham) Schimke all of Manistee, grandchildren; Lydia Schimke of Manistee, Taylor Schimke of Scottville, Dakota, Cheyene, & ShawNee Renner of Manistee, Jordan & Jarryd Fleetwood of Scotttville, Ashlie & Tara Keasling of IA, and Renee Hart of Muskegon, great grandchildren; Thor, Robert, & Brittney, his brother; Bernie (Lori) Schimke of Kentwood, his sisters; JoAnn (Marv) Malmgren, Linda Johnson, & DeAnna Schimke of Manistee, numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins, and last but not least Squeakers his beloved dog and companion.
He was also preceded in death by in-laws; Joe & Gladys Horina, sister-in-law; Cindy Horina, and Brothers-in-law; David Johnson & Tom Horina.
Funeral Services for Jerry will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee with Pastor Jaimie Parlette officiating. Burial will be in the Spring at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening (Monday) from 5-7 PM and Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service.
