Laurence (Larry) Glover was born on June 11, 1933 to Orson & Vera (Achterhof) Glover at Hart, Michigan. The family moved to Shelby where Larry attended grade school through the sixth grade, a move was then made back to Hart where Larry graduated from high school in 1952. During high school he participated in basketball and football and received honors in both sports including All State honor in football.
A year after graduation Larry entered the US Army serving in Korea and Japan. Upon his discharge from the service he entered Western Michigan College. During college he married Mary A. Smith (his high school sweetheart) on March 31, 1956 at the Shelby Methodist Church. In 1957 he applied for and was accepted to the Michigan State Police where he had a thirty year career, retiring as F/Ft. He served at Ionia, Cadillac, Houghton Lake, and as Post Commander of the Calumet and Manistee Posts. During his State Police career he participated in several duties which included First Aid Instructor, Breathalyzer Technician, instructor in Law Enforcement Information Network System, and as the commander of a Recruit Training School. He was awarded a Bravery Award as the result of a shoot out with a barricaded individual.
After retirement Larry became a licensed Real Estate Associate and a Residential Appraiser for approximately nine years.
Laurence (Larry) Glover died Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary, sons Gregory (Tammy), Bryan (Melanie) and their three sons, Alex, Nicholas, and Andrew.
Memorial Services will be held Monday, November 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Manistee United Methodist Church with Pastor John Scott officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service. A luncheon will follow the service.
