Bruce Lee  Johnson, Sr.
Bruce Lee Johnson, Sr., Age 62 of Manistee died Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He was born on August 27, 1955 in Manistee the son of the late Arthur Wayne & Betty Jean (Morley) Johnson. He was a 1973 graduate of Manistee High School. Bruce also was a veteran of the United States Navy. He married Mary Jo Sheafor on April 1, 1995 in Manistee.
Bruce was employed in maintenance by Manistee County for 22 years, retiring in January of 2016. During that time he worked at the Manistee County Library, County Courthouse, and the Sherriff’s Department.
He was a member of the Civic Club, enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, Michigan Football, Detroit Tigers & Lions, and spending time with family. Bruce will be remembered as “Santa” in Manistee for many Sleighbell Parades, at Santa’s House on River Street, and his numerous visits to area schools and nursing homes as well as many Christmas visits to area families.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jo Johnson of Manistee, one son; Bruce (Courtney) Johnson, Jr. and granddaughter Keira of Manistee, 2 special great nieces; Izzy & Aalihya, two brothers; Wayne Johnson of Manistee and Gary (Linda) Johnson of Onekama, as well as nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother; Arthur N. Johnson and a sister-in-law; Helena Johnson.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 2- 5 PM at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee.
