Marian and Pete travelled to Manistee for a family wedding and fell in love with the area. In 1955 they bought their cottage on Portage Lake. Marian, her mother and Keith spent many summers there until Pete retired in 1969 and they moved up full time. They enjoyed their winters in Holiday, Florida and loved to travel to Hawaii, Alaska and to cruise the Caribbean. Their summers were spent fishing and taking advantage of the local tour bus trips and casino tours (Action Tours).
Marian was a member of the Spirit of the Woods Garden Club where she served as President for 3 years and also as Secretary. She was honored with a lifetime membership. She was also a member of the Lady Elks as well as the Portage Lake Association. Pete and Marian, along with several friends, were known for their spaghetti dinners.
