Obituary for Charles Earl Melchert Sr.

Charles Earl Melchert Sr., 79, of Free Soil, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Oakview Medical Care Facility. He was born May 1, 1938 in Lake Orion to Roy and Arneva (Redding) Melchert. Charles graduated from Lake Orion High School. He married Sharon Hahn on January 30, 1987 in Sturgis Michigan. Charles worked as a supervisor at Noron Industries in Manistee for many years.
In his spare time, Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, writing and playing music on his Acoustic guitar, yard work, and crafting at Oakview. He also enjoyed making fudge and his secret recipe BBQ sauce to share with friends and family.
Charles is survived by his children, Charles (Alycia) Melchert II, Dawn (Larry) Cabana, Greg (Lori) Melchert, Brad (Dawn) Melchert, Michelle Melchert, Tonya (Ray) Morgan, Debra (John) Gorman, Laura (Martin) Barnard, Susan (Rodney) Taylor, and Kathy (Stephen) McPherson, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sister Clarice Perry and his brother Ron (Norma) Melchert Sr.
Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife Sharon in 2006, his siblings, Dorothy Holcomb, Florence Bennett, Betty Corneal, Mary Wethy, Sandy Weber, Patty Gonezolus, and Pauline Melchert, and his step son Kevin Hahn.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. Please join the family in a celebration of Charles at the Grant Town Hall following the visitation for a light luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles’ name may be directed to the Oakview Activity Center or the Charity of donor’s choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Ludington.
