Obituary for Myrlin S. Davenport

Myrlin S. Davenport, 81, of Scottville, passed away on January 27, 2018.

Myrlin was born on December 3, 1936 in St. Clair Shores, the son Myrlin and Mayme (Gustafson) Davenport. After graduating from Pellston High School in 1955, Myrlin enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1962 with the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer (E-5).

Myrlin had a long career with Traverse Bay Woolen Company, working as a manager in their stores throughout Michigan. He was a member of the American Legion and the Elks. Myrlin was a fighter when it came to his health. Although there were constant set-backs, he always persevered and was able to enjoy golfing, fishing, and working in his vegetable garden.

Myrlin had an incredible love for his family and felt blessed to have a close relationship with his sisters. As a father, Myrlin found a good balance between loving and firm guidance. He was selfless and caring and will be missed by those who survive him: sons, Christopher Davenport and Fayne (Cheryl) Davenport; step-children, Teddy (Melonie) Lemire and Cindy Lemire; companion and caregiver, Joan Dobias; Joan’s sons, Gary and Randy Thompson; sisters, Norma (Bob) Shorter of Allanson, Janet Arrington of Mobile AL, Joanne (Myrl) Keller of Charlevoix, and Karen (Hal) Ringler of Cedar Springs; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Myrlin was preceded in death by his parents, Myrlin and Mayme Davenport; wives, Nancy Lawton and Lois Wickery; and his brother-in-law, Doug Arrington.
