Obituary for Archie William Eastway

Archie William Eastway, age 87, of Ludington, passed away on January 14, 2018.

Archie was born on June 28, 1930 in Muskegon, the son of Lawrence and Claire (Griffin) Eastway. He was enlisted in the United States Army from 1948 until 1954, where he served in the Korean War. On December 12, 1953, he was wed to Alice Thomas. In 1959, Archie started working for Savage Manufacturing. The company changed names a few times and Archie attempted to retire at one point, but he wasn’t able to finally relax and enjoy his retirement until 1996. Archie was proud of his gardens, boasting the most beautiful flowers on Lakeshore Drive. He had a knack for knowing when someone would change his tv channel, even while he was deeply engrossed in “resting his eyes”, and often spent time fishing, hunting, and hanging out with his family. Archie also played and was an umpire for fast pitch softball for many years.

Archie and his New Year’s Day chop suey will be missed by those who survive him: children, Dixie Williams, Michael Eastway, Frances Eastway, Joe (Ronda Dodds) Eastway, and Todd (Dottie) Eastway; grandchildren, Rebecca (Laura) Eastway, Elizabeth Eastway Page, Robert (Cathy) Lange, Michelle (Brad) Majocha, Michael (Kali) Eastway, Zachary (Nichole Tubbs) Eastway, Caleb (Leslie Mickevich) Eastway, and Amy Eastway; great grandchildren, Cobb Majocha and Hunter Hansen; friend, Ida Ramsey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Archie in death were his parents, Lawrence and Claire Eastway; wife, Alice Eastway; daughter Doris Carter; son-in-law, Frank Williams, sisters, Pat, Doris, and Donna; and brother, Earl.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 am at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington, with visitation starting at 9:30 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the family: Dixie Williams.
