Jerry Wayne Lemire, age 87, of Ludington went to be with Lord, Saturday, January 13, 2018. He was born February 2, 1930 in Ludington to Charles and Etta (Bougette) Lemire. After graduating from Ludington High School , Jerry enlisted in the US Army where he served as Sergeant First Class during the Korean War, serving in Germany. He was a part of the Combat Engineers.

On June 12, 1954 Jerry married Dorothy Yeck at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ludington. Together they raised three children: Laura, Tim, and Tom. Jerry worked for C&O Railroad for over 30 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he attended regularly. There, he had a “reserved back seat”, sitting next to his nephew. He was a member of the American Legion, and the Ludington Boat Club.
Jerry enjoyed boating and fishing on his boat, “Poody”, along with fishing off the docks at Ludington Boat Club with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed driving around in his truck, making daily trips to “visit” his wife, friends, and relatives at the cemetery. Jerry’s hobbies included wood crafting. He loved endlessly working in his yard and garden, where he visited with his friendly neighbors. His favorite football team that he faithfully followed throughout many years was the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry’s favorite optimistic saying was, “It’ll all work out!”.

Jerry was a humble man with a generous heart. He will be greatly missed by his children: Laura (James) Papes of Scottville, Thomas Lemire (Bonnie Hendricks) of Clearwater, FL, and Timothy (Teri) Lemire of Manistee; six grandchildren: Ashley (Nick) Lyons, Lindy (Brent) Gillett, Kristen Lemire, Jordan Lemire, Eric (Ashley) Lemire and Megan (Pat) Kissell; seven great grandchildren: Carter, Natalie, Addyson, Ashton, Jaelyn, Cora, and Finn. He will also be missed by the caring staff at St. John’s House.
Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Dorothy, in 1998, and his sister, Jackie Gadziemski.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. A funeral will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 11 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ludington, with visitation one hour prior, Pastor Thomas Boehne presiding. Jerry will be laid to rest next to his wife, Dorothy, at Lakeview Cemetery in the spring, with Military Honors.
Memorial contributions in Jerry’s name may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Hospice of Michigan.
