Obituary for Benjamin James Compeau

Benjamin James Compeau, 35, of Scottville, passed away from an automobile accident on December 1, 2017.

Ben was born on August 22, 1982, to parents Mark Compeau and Christie (Brye) Vandervest. Ben graduated from Ludington High School in 2001 and received his Associate’s Degree from West Shore Community College. He also attended Baker College and East Carolina University in subsequent years. Growing up, Ben worked at his grandmother’s restaurant where he developed a strong work ethic and a stronger passion for cooking. He shared his abundant talent with friends and family, often cooking amazing meals and never letting go of an opportunity to create something delicious. Most recently, Ben worked in the title department at Western Land Services.

On September 7, 2013, Ben was wed to Meghan Killips and on April 12, 2016, welcomed their new baby, Ashton, into their family. In addition to cooking, Ben loved sports, especially helping with the various sports that his 10-year-old daughter, Ava, was involved and coaching the travel team for Ludington High School. While he enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing and golfing, he was a family man who was most happy spending time with loved ones at home.

Ben is survived by his wife, Meghan Compeau; children, Ava and Ashton Compeau; parents, Christie (David) Vandervest and Mark Compeau; siblings, Brad (Heather) Compeau, Angie (Danny) Dodson, and Chyann Compeau, grandparents, Arlene Compeau and Bob Vandervest, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws who will miss him dearly.

Ben’s grandparents, Rex and Ethel Hanover, preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington, with visitation starting at noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, in the name of Meghan Compeau.
