Obituary for William Brown

William  Brown
William (Bill) Brown died peacefully on Friday, November 24 at the age of 85.

Bill was born on April 13, 1932 in Tryon, Oklahoma. He graduated from Reed City High School in 1950. He entered the Navy on April 3, 1951 and was honorably discharged March 30, 1955. He married Doris on July 23, 1955. He retired from Howmet Corporation in 1987 after 32 years of service.

Bill is well remembered for his community service. He served on the Pentwater Village Council for 20 years, and was instrumental in establishing the Pentwater ambulance service along with being a member of the ambulance service. He instructed at least 300 men and woman in CPR/first aid at Howmet and throughout Oceana county. He was a member of the Oceana EMS Board from 1973-1987. Bill was also a founding member of the Mason-Oceana 911 Board and acted as the fire representative for the county on the board from 1995- 2005. He served on the Pentwater Fire Department for 50 years, 30 years as the chief. He was an active member of the Eldon L. Chadwick VFW Post 6017 and a prior VFW Post Commander. Bill and Doris received the honor of Pentwater Citizens of the Year in 1982.

Bill enjoyed deer hunting, attending all of the Pentwater sporting events, and anything his children and grandchildren were involved in.

Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris (Daggett) Brown, three children, Sherrie (Kim) Tyler, Jeff (Meg) Brown, Brent (Lisa) Brown, grandchildren Shannon and Garrett Tyler, Macie and Hannah Brown, Josie and Curtis Brown, great-grandchildren Parker Silsbee and Lochlan Hubbs, sister Carol (Francis) Hammerle, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruby Brown, and brother Carl Brown.

A Celebration of Life with full military honors has been scheduled for Saturday, December 9 at 4:00 p.m. at the Pentwater VFW. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Eldon L. Chadwick VFW Post 6017 or to Doris Brown.
