Obituary for Joseph Richard Chmura

Joseph Richard Chmura, age 62, of Bear Lake, passed away 0ctober 31, 2017 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Joseph was born May 18, 1955 at Selfridge AFB in Harrison Township, MI. He was the son of Virginia (Gust) Chmura and the late Richard J. Chmura. He attended Fraser High School, graduating in 1973. He was the Resort Manager for Fredricks Cottages for 30 years.

Joe was passionate about his music. He received his first guitar at the age of six and never put it down. He was a great writer and composer, producing music in his studio. Joe was an exceptional guitar player. When Joe wasn’t in his studio, he would love to be out on the water with a knack for catching fish. Joe would also spend time golfing. He is the only one we knew that could throw a golf club farther than he could hit a ball.
Joe’s job operating Fredrick’s Cottages was never a job to him. The guests that came to visit and Vacation year after year became family to him.

Joe will leave a void in our lives, but he also leaves with us amazing memories. Joe will be greatly missed, and he is greatly loved.

Joe is survived by his mother Virginia Chmura, sister Pamela Palmer (Robert Miehlke), brothers Mark (Christine) Chmura and Richard Chmura, Richard Palmer, Gina Jauregui, Erin Bair, nieces and nephews and loved ones; Timothy and Jessica Rose Palmer, Craig and Jess Palmer, Donovan Roof, Cheyenne Mihalik, Jacob Jauregui, Jared and Natalie Bair, and great niece Evelyn Roof. Also, there will be a new little one that will be brought into this world in April. Joe would have loved to have seen the newest addition to the family.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Bear Lake United Methodist Church with John Kruse and Rev. Jane Logston officiating. Burial will be in the Bear Lake Township Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Bear Lake United Methodist Church on Monday evening from 5-8 PM on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service.
