Douglas Wayne Anderson, 78, of Ludington, passed away unexpectedly on August 12, 2017. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Doug was born on April 29, 1939 in Ludington, the son of Louis Anderson Jr. and DeLysle (Campbell) Anderson. He was a lifetime Ludington resident, graduating from Ludington High School in 1957. After graduation, he attended Ferris State University. Doug married his high school sweetheart, Beverly “Toody” Smith, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on December 29th, 2016. He worked as a draftsman and production control manager for the former Jackson Vibrators, Jackson Jordan and Pandrol Jackson (which is now Harsco Rail) in Ludington. Doug also owned and operated his own seal coat business, Easy Maintenance Co., for many years. He was a former member of the Elks, Jaycees and Emanuel Lutheran Church and a long-time member of Community Church.

Doug had a life-long love of cars, especially classic hot rods. He often said that “he was the biggest car guy that didn’t have a car”. That is, until he bought, and completely rebuilt and restored, his “dream car”, a 1936 2-door Ford Coupe. He had it painted burgundy with yellow flames coming from the hood and loved to see the people give him a thumbs-up as he drove by.

Doug enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors. Although he enjoyed deer hunting, his real passion was pheasant hunting and he truly loved the many pheasant hunting trips he took to South Dakota with family and friends. Doug also liked to travel. He and Bev travelled all over the country and the world, but he was most relaxed sitting in the shade listening to waves crash on the beach somewhere, or sitting around a campfire.
Although Doug loved classic cars, hunting and travelling, his favorite hobby may have been watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. Rarely did he miss a game, match or event regardless of where it was. Doug and Bev logged many, many miles travelling to and from sporting events and performances across the state.

Doug will be missed by those who survive him: his wife, Beverly Anderson; children, Lori (Fred) Carlson, Jill (Joel) Spoelman, Kraig (Shelly) Anderson, and Holly (Eric) Weigand; grandchildren, Samantha (Ryan) Nutt, Jaimie and Mychala Spoelman, Jordyn and Chase Anderson, Jacob and Ryan Weigand; and step-grandchildren, Tammy Bross and Jeff Carlson.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and DeLysle, his step-mother Helen, brother-in-law Jack Smith and sister-in-law Jeanie Smith.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington, with visitation starting at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Church.
