Bear Lake – Max Elwin Coalter, 74, passed away on June 25, 2017 at his home.
Max was born on May 30, 1943 in Kent City, Michigan, the son of Fred E. Coalter and Dorothy M. (Stuthard) Stockhill.
He was a graduate of Sparta High School, class of 1961. He served in the United States Air Force as a nuclear weapons specialist from 1963 to 1966.
Max was united in marriage to Nancy E. Anderson, on September 7, 1996 in Bear Lake.
During his career, Max was an expert computer service technician for 35 years with Wang Global.
He was a member of the Bear Lake United Methodist Church, Bear Lake Promoters, Bear Lake Area Historical Society and a founding member of Vision Bear Lake.
Max enjoyed fishing at Green Lake, singing, bowling, and doing the New York Time Sunday crossword puzzle, coin collecting, antiquing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Nancy, children Michael (Trudy) Coalter, Christa (Don) Hooker, step children Dawn (Peter) Ware, Ryan (Sasha) Landis, and John Matthew Evans. Also grandchildren, Monique and Troy Coalter, Timothy Patrick Olin, Ella and Holly Ware, Ayden, Peter, Marlee, Raab and Lane Landis.
He is also survived by sisters and brothers Arlene (Stu) Dunn, Anita Stoppenhagen (Greg Parker), Janice Newcombe, Larry (Nancy) Coalter, Gayle Coalter (Tom Beuschel), Marcia Coalter, Roger (Karen) Coalter, Terri Rau, Julie (Tom) Scheuneman, Vickie Cole, Candy (Rob) Chaney, his stepmother Gertie Coalter, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Max was proceeded in death by his parents, an infant brother Dale Coalter, and his special pets Charlie dog and Harry.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 1 at 11 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to services at the Bear Lake United Methodist Church with Pastor Jane Logston officiating. A private burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.
