Richard Arnold Freer, Age 89, longtime Manistee resident died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
He was born on February 13, 1928 in Harrisville, MI the son of the late George & Mazie (Lixie) Freer. A veteran of the United States Army he served during World War II. He was a graduate of Ferris State College in 1953 with a Degree in Pharmacy. On November 27, 1954 he married Mae Englund in Manistee. She preceded him in death on May 8, 1985.
Dick’s career as a pharmacist included working at Berglund’s Drug Store, The Apothecary Shoppe, West Shore Medical Center-retiring in 1990, and City Drug Store-retiring in 2006.
He was a Life Member of the Manistee Elks Lodge #250 and had been a member of the Manistee Rotary. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, morel hunting, and loved to cut and split firewood.
Survivors include his children; Candace (Moose) Wittlieff of Free Soil, MI, Kenneth Freer of Fife Lake, MI, and Rebecca (Phillip) Sisson of Meridian, Idaho, grandchildren; Carrie (Jason) Schenkel, Collin Block, Kayla (Matt) Hall, Adam & piper Sisson, and great grandchildren; Kyler & Kensley Schenkel and Connor & Parker Block.
He was also preceded in death by siblings; Robert, Roni Jo, & Geroge “Ed” Freer, Helena Hickman and Donna Ross.
Memorial Services for Richard A. Freer will be held Monday, May 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee with Reverend Kevin McClain officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.
