Patrick Joseph O’Herron, Age 70 of Manistee died Monday, May 9, 2016 at West Shore Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.
Pat was born on September 6, 1945 in Detroit, MI, the sixth of twelve children to William & Alice (Grant) O’Herron. He served in the United States Army. On May 23, 1969 he married Dianne K. Bjorkquist at Saint Mary’s Church in Manistee. They spent 35 years together gardening, camping, going to estate sales, & sitting around the kitchen table. He also cleaned up dutifully after Dianne’s marathon baking sessions.
He was an active member of the Manistee Moose Lodge. He bowled for several years, winning City Doubles and All-Events in 1981. He claimed to pass these skills on to his son. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, taking care of his garden, & complaining to whoever would listen. His stubbornness kept him going longer than any doctor could imagine.
Pat is survived by his son: Patrick M. O’Herron and daughter-in-law; Martha Batzer-O’Herron. On September 1, 2015 he welcomed his grandson Dallas James O’Herron into his heart, and he hadn’t stopped smiling since.
He is also survived by siblings; Mary (Tony) Helminiak, Iona McDougall, Margaret (Melvin) Schweitzer, Daniel (Dawn) O’Herron, Rose (Ray) Ruba, Michael (Jenny) O’Herron, John (Marsha)O’Herron, & Marie (Dan) Baker, sisters-in-law; Gloria, Carol, & Marge O’Herron, Debbie Ott (Robert), Julie (Steve) Cronk, brother-in-law; Michael Bjorkquist (Ellie), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dianne, 3 brothers; William, Tom, Frank (Delany) O’Herron, brothers-in-law; Colin McDougall and William Ott, sister-in-law; Mary Jo Bjorkquist, and nephew Christopher O’Herron.
