Thomas William Batzer, Age 75 of Manistee died Monday morning July 9, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital in Muskegon.

He was born on November 18, 1942 in Manistee the son of the late William & Rose (Dontz) Batzer. He was a 1960 graduate of Manistee High School and received an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement from West Shore Community College. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam Era. On July 13, 1996 in Manistee he was married to Linda Lema by his brother Judge James M. Batzer.

Tom was employed as a policeman by the City of Manistee for 30 years, retiring on July 3, 1996. He was very active in the community having been a Life Member & Past Exalted Ruler of The Manistee Elks Lodge #250, a Life Member of VFW Post #4499, as well as being a member of the Manistee Moose, Eagles, & American Legion. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Manistee Golf and Country Club. He also enjoyed skiing, bowling, and hunting. Tom also served as a board member for The Filer Credit Union.

Survivors include his wife; Linda L. Batzer of Manistee, one son; Tim (Paula) Batzer of Bear Lake, one daughter; Stacey Lynn Batzer of Los Angeles, CA, one step-son; John (Nikki) Fuhrman of Wisconsin, grandchildren; Brandon & Dezyrae Batzer &Paige Fuhrman, two brothers; Judge James M. (Debbie) Batzer and Dr. Theodore Nels (Dorothy) Batzer both of Manistee, several nieces, nephews, & cousins and his canine companion “Trailer”.

He was also preceded in death by a brother; William Batzer.

A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be Held Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee, beginning at 11:00 AM with a Memorial Service by the Manistee Elks Lodge, followed by a time of sharing and prayer, and concluding with Military Honors by the Manistee United Veterans Council. A luncheon at the Manistee Elks will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until time of service. Interment will be Friday, July 13, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the Onekama Village Cemetery.
