Loraine Emms, age 97, of Ludington, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018.

Loraine was born on July 20, 1920 in Chicago IL, the daughter of William and Vivian (Sjogren) Peterson. She graduated from Ludington High School and Eastern Michigan University with a Master’s Degree. Loraine was an early elementary teacher for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, oil painting and painting ceramics. She was a member of women’s church groups in Traverse City, Muskegon, Ludington, and Grand Rapids, the Ludington Emblem Club, Life member of American Association of Union Women, the Art League and Yacht Club in Ludington, and a prayer group at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ludington.

Loraine is survived by her son, James (Stephanie) Emms III; daughter, Patricia (David) Bisbee; grandchildren, Trisha (Bryan) Taylor, Jared (Kennedy) Bisbee, James “Jed” (Kati) Emms IV, and Jodi Emms; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Loraine was preceded in death by her husband, James Emms II; daughter Carol Sue Emms; and brothers, Herman and William Peterson.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at Emanuel Lutheran Church, with visitation starting at 10:00 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
