Obituary for James F. Jacobs

James F. Jacobs
James Frank Jacobs, age 81, of Scottville and Bonita Springs, FL passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 with his family by his side. Jim was born November 20, 1936 in Kalamazoo to James F. and Laura (Mallow) Jacobs Jr. He graduated from Bangor High School in 1955 and was involved in the Navy Reserves during high school and for a time after school. He married Barbara Baker on November 30, 1957 in South Haven.
Jim was a “Jack of all Trades”. He was constantly fixing something. He spent some time at the GM Institute but due to his ability to learn so quickly on the job, Jim went on to work as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. He worked all over the world, spending a year and a half in Australia and several months in Alaska on the pipeline. He worked on the pump storage project in Ludington which is what ultimately drew him and his family to this area.
Jim was the VP and President of the Land Improvement Contractors of America. He helped build the granary in Scottville as a part of the National Farmers Organization. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. Jim and his wife spent half the year in Scottville and the other half in Bonita Springs, FL, where he was active in the Scottville Church of Christ and the Anchor Christian Church of Bonita Springs.
Jim loved spending time with his family and he will be greatly missed by his wife, Barb, his children, James D. Jacobs of Custer and Laura (David) LaMie of Twin Lake, two grandchildren, Rachel (Chad) Staudacher and David (Terri) LaMie, his seven great grandchildren, his siblings, Tom (Jan) Jacobs and Pat (Cy) Hart, his sister-in-law, Joan Jacobs and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his granddaughter Lindsey Jacobs and his brother Andy Jacobs.
A funeral will be held Friday, June 15, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Ludington. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be directed to the Scottville Church of Christ or the NRA.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Ludington.
