He worked all over the world, spending a year and a half in Australia and several months in Alaska on the pipeline. He worked on the pump storage project in Ludington which is what ultimately drew him and his family to this area.

He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. Jim and his wife spent half the year in Scottville and the other half in Bonita Springs, FL, where he was active in the Scottville Church of Christ and the Anchor Christian Church of Bonita Springs.
Jim loved spending time with his family and he will be greatly missed by his wife, Barb, his children, James D. Jacobs of Custer and Laura (David) LaMie of Twin Lake, two grandchildren, Rachel (Chad) Staudacher and David (Terri) LaMie, his seven great grandchildren, his siblings, Tom (Jan) Jacobs and Pat (Cy) Hart, his sister-in-law, Joan Jacobs and several nieces and nephews.
