Obituary for Carl Anthony "Butch" Anderson

Carl Anthony "Butch" Anderson
Carl “Butch” Anthony Anderson, 82, of Ludington, passed away on February 11, 2018.

Carl was born on July 29, 1935 in Freesoil, the son of Hans and Mabel (Lyon) Anderson. He graduated from Scottville High School in 1953 and received a business degree from Central Michigan University in 1959. After enlisting in the United States Army, Carl was stationed in Germany. Upon returning he worked for more than 38 years in the personnel department at General Motors in a variety of executive positions. Carl moved to a number of locations while working at GM and was always involved in the community where he lived while serving on boards and committees.

In 1956, Carl wed the love of his life and best friend, Patricia Gleeson. Together they raised four wonderful children. 35 years ago, Carl and Pat took a trip to Maui and have been spending the winters there ever since. His love of football spanned the NFL down to PeeWee. If he was driving by kids playing a game, he would stop and cheer them on. His favorite team, though, was Detroit Catholic Central, where he beamed with pride watching his youngest son, Dan, coach the Shamrocks to victory.

Family was so important to Carl. While he enjoyed a good political debate every so often, his kind nature set an amazing example for his children. He was someone they admired and could always turn to in a time of need. The love between Carl and Pat taught their children how marriage should look; loving and supportive.

The legacy Carl leaves behind is the tight bond created throughout his family: his wife, Patricia Anderson; children, Mike (Barb) Anderson, Cindy (Chris) Hagan, Julie (Joe) Fullenkamp; and Dan Anderson; grandchildren, Matt and Jamie Anderson, Jamie and Ryan Morse, David Anderson and Kristin Hurley, Tommy and Shauna Anderson, Jason and Shannon Anderson, Sarah and Chalo Mendez, Erin and Jake Willrich, Katie and Nate Wallman, Amy and Jason Isaacson, Kayla Anderson and her fiancé Cody Russell, and Nathan Anderson; 17 great grandchildren, and one on the way; and his siblings, Phyllis Grund, Neil Anderson, and Margie Knudsen.

Preceding Carl in death were his parents, Hans and Mabel Anderson; and siblings, Arlene Graham, Frank Anderson, Ray Anderson, and Earl Anderson.

A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Simon Catholic Church, with Rev. Wayne Wheeler presiding. Visitation will start at 9:00 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Community Foundation of Howard County, Carl A. Anderson Scholarship Fund, 215W. Sycamore, Kokomo, IN 46901 or to the Community Foundation of Mason County Michigan, mason-foundation.org.
