Obituary for May Emma Kessler

May Emma (Mears) Kessler, age 74, of Ludington passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017. She was born December 5, 1943 in Muskegon to Ervin and Lena (Hale) Mears. She graduated from Ludington High School in 1962. May enlisted in the US Army and met her future husband on the Army base in Alabama. She married Charles Scott Kessler.
May worked, for a time, at Bay Woods Nursing Home as a Nurse’s Aide, but she mostly traveled with her husband who was in the Army for over 30 years.
May was very crafty. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting, and quilting. She made beautiful dolls and Santa figurines which she sold at craft shows.
May was known for opening her home to any soldier in need especially during the holidays. She always had a hot meal and a warm blanket for anyone in need.
She is survived by her sister, Carol-Anne Mears of Ludington; God Daughter and niece, Gillian Bates; three nieces, Amanda, Lisa, Ann and one nephew, John; adopted sisters Marilyn Sweet, Marjorie Carlson, Joan (Jim)Carey, Jean Maloney , and Cookie Chmielewski; good friends, Fr. Michael McDermit and Fr. Reedy and beloved dog, Sadie.
Besides her parents, May was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her son, Samuel Kessler, her brothers, John Mears, Sam (Mary) Mears, buddy and Buzz Hulet.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
