Frederick L Schroeder died Saturday, Dec.23, 2017 at his home in Ludington surrounded by his family.

Fred was born on July 7, 1930, the son of Frederick and Marjorie (Parker) Schroeder. He graduated from Ludington High School in 1949 and married his high school sweetheart, Elsie V. Nelson, on September 9, 1949, celebrating 67 years of marriage. Fred was a building contractor for most of his life. After retirement, many years were spent volunteering at White Pine Village, the downtown murals, waterfront playground, soccer fieldhouse, was an honorary member of the Scottville Clown Band and in 2001 he had the distinction of being the Grand Marshall of the 4th of July parade along with his good friend Stub Willick.

Fred took so much pride in his home and spending time in his yard and gardens. He was a devoted fan of all Ludington Oriole sports, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling and spending time with his family. Fred was a member of the Community Church, DBA, Ludington Elks, Lincoln Hills Golf Club, and LuScott CU Trailer Club.

Fred is survived by his wife, Elsie Schroeder; children, Kevin “Skip” (Julie) Schroeder, Debra (Mitch) Newberg; Lorrie (Don) McKay; sister, Marge Lund; brothers-in-law, Wilbur (Edna) Nelson and Donald (Sharon) Nelson; grandchildren, Melissa (Brad) Hoekert, Brad (Christine) McKay, Todd McKay, Adam (Tricia) McKay, Chad (Kerry) Newberg, Carrie (Joe) Linna, Kaley (Fritz) Petersen, and Tyler Schroeder; and great grandchildren, Hannah, Nora, and Dawson Hoekert, Ashlyn, Drake, Payton, Carson, Kaiden, Riley, and Cailyn McKay, Chloe Newberg, Parker and Avah Linna, and Audric and Elda Petersen and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Marjorie Schroeder; sisters, Arlene (Clare) Howe, Jean (Ray) Potter, and Marilynn (Ed) Jackson; brother-in-law, Nels Lund; and great grandson, Hunter Lee McKay.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 12:00 pm at The Community Church, with Pastor Brett Spalding presiding. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to The Community Church or Harbor Hospice.
